Aging . . . . Face Forward

To age is natural: to age well is to embark upon a journey of courageousness and responsibility. One may choose to not give themselves over to the currents of time as the faculties slowly fade. There are those who decide to fade into the non-existence of rolling over while sinking into obscure indifference. This is more the norm than not. Living into older age requires that one take ownership of the process; showing up regularly is a big plus in this regard. One must be stalwart and steadfast in putting forth the Sisyphean effort that is required by the aging process.

Most people learn too late that aging, when managed properly, can be complimentary to the body / mind / spirit complex. Many watch the years roll by as the body signals them to take action towards maintaining or improving their general health. Actively participating in beneficial activities, with consistency, contributes greatly to the process of graceful aging. Possessing and maintaining good health and functional mobility are foundational to fully engaging in the journey of life.

The vehicle of aging does not come with an instruction manual. Although many see the effects of aging on the average person, they may not necessarily see themselves as proceeding down the same path. Those who maintain a routine of regular check ups, consistent exercise, dietary monitoring, and clarity of thought are better equipped for the journey. As regards the human body, the process of aging does not have to give visible evidence of physical deterioration or mental compromise. There are modalities, practices, and techniques which can serve to maintain or even enhance human functional capacities. This, while dealing positively with the importune procession / progression of aging.

To be cared for

Carrots wait for no one . . . . . . . . so I pick them now. The same with life. It does not wait, it does not delay. It moves on with a consistency, with the ‘speed of life’, so to speak. The human body performs an estimated 1020 to 1022 chemical reactions per second to maintain metabolic normalcy. Thus, the actions that one undertakes can have that magnitude of influence, per second, upon the human body. Little aches, pains, and abnormalities that the body brings to the surface are possible signs of processes that could be life altering. Yet, many are content to let these abnormalities linger unaddressed. That is not necessarily a good idea.

One must determine that their aging process will be an active pursuit. Activity will be a helpful boost toward that end. What activity??? Whatever it is that is motivational. Physical activity is to be engaged in on an age appropriate and capability basis. Some 60 year old individuals are as capable as most 30 – 40 year old individuals. Mental stimulation, keeping the mind engaged, is also an important factor. Having a spiritual focus can also be a major bulwark against the onset of age. Body, Mind, and Spirit must come together in the maintenance and perseverance of optimal functionality.

That one faces forward in the process of aging indicates the acceptance of the fears that would waylay the average mortal. Some people seem to do it with little apparent effort while others must work to surmount the slings and arrows that are thrown at them. Eating . . .well. Resting . . . . well. Socializing . . . . well. Pursuing inner peace . . . . well. Being consistent with medical updates but doing the research and review that provide knowledge enough to query the medical provider. Being active in ways that sustain strength and facilitate mobility. These are the stepping stones that one must bravely navigate on the aging journey. Aging is not for the faint of heart.
