Journey to Higher Consciousness: The Dragon and the Warrior

.

There is a higher state of spiritual attainment that one can achieve when their ‘elemental selves’ are brought into unison. This higher state is depicted within the elemental symbolism of the Dragon and the Warrior. Aether is the field of substance from which give rise to the other elements. It is a unified field which creates subtle space for the movement of other elements. Air directs the movement of our thought processes, our emotional life and our internal physiology. It is intimately linked to intelligence. Fire is the driving force behind bodily functions, gives vitality to the body’s energy systems, and is the primary directive of the human will. Water is the enclave of the unconscious, emotions and deep feelings. It is the domain of dreaming, intuition and a Knowing beyond reason. The Earth element is associated with establishing firm foundations, whether they are in our thinking processes, our emotions or our physical bodies. The descent into 3D Mundane Reality is outlined within Samkhya Philosophy. Human can ascend mentally, spiritually, through the elemental levels and attain a higher vibrational state.

The portrayal of Dragons and Warriors as adversaries grossly overshadows the potential of their spiritual unification. The all powerful dragon is associated with unrelenting force and strength. The dragon must be overcome by any means possible. The warrior is the embodiment of protection and overcoming. He goes forth with the intent to conquer and to vanquish. No possibility of attaining higher levels of insight can result if the one vanquishes the other. The fully clad warrior embodies the four lower elements. The dragon is identified as the higher element of Aether. Seeing where these elements exist in deficit within oneself is the place from where one can begin the process of ascending to the realms of less density and higher vibration. Uniting the energies of the dragon and the warrior can be beneficial to the spiritual quest of searching, to pondering, and discovering that there is always more to realize.

Dragon looking over the surroundings

The dragon is a metaphysical metaphor for the higher levels of spiritual attainment. They exist as manifestation of the (a)ether element / akasha. There are the positive connotations associated with the dragon. There are also negative connotations associated with this entity. They are said to be imbued with attributes related to power, strength, transformation, wisdom, protection, fire, flight, and the primal forces of nature. Thus, depending on the cultural context, they represent a potent symbol for creation or destruction.  They have great wisdom and can contribute benevolent assistance. Christianity has deemed dragons to be harbingers and purveyors of doom and ‘evil’. Yet, there are those who hold them in a more positive light. In many cultures, they are viewed as protectors, symbols of divine wisdom and are regarded as ‘ancient beings’. Dragons are primarily neutral entities. They can be malevolent or benevolent, depending upon how they are engaged.

The Sword of the Warrior (as Air) indicates the application of wisdom. It is symbolizes power, protection, authority, strength, and courage; metaphysically. It represents discrimination and the penetrating power of the intellect. The is a male weapon (phallic) but it is protected by the feminine (the sheath being yonic). It is a symbol of knighthood and chivalry.  Many swords have magical properties and are given to heroes for the advancement of justice; Excalibur was given to Arthur by the lady of the lake, The Greek gods gave Perseus a sword that could cleave stone to defeat Medusa. In both cases, the use of the sword had to be combined with skill, understanding, and intelligence.

The Spear (staff) of the Warrior (as Fire) denotes taking direct action. The staff is an axis that connects man to Source. This connection drives individuation, the integration of human unconsciousness and consciousness. This leads to the discovering and accepting the genuine Self. Humans realize Self through consciousness of the inner personality by constantly establishing a relationship with the inner world of unconsciousness. By making the unconscious conscious, they can be in constant communication with Source. As a spiritual guide, the staff is an archetype of the therapist. The wielder of the staff can maintain an offensive distance between themselves and whatever is coming within range of the spear. The spear, through Norse Mythology, connects to the world tree, from which it was created. It was imbued with magical power and symbolized (Odin’s) authority and dominance over Asgard.

The four elements brought together in the battle armaments of the warrior

The Helmet of the warrior provides a shielding for the mind, defending it from negative thoughts, fears, and uncertainties. Destructive forces are are rebuffed by the divine protection of the helmet. The helmet can be taken to be an inverted cup or bowl as these item are emblematic of the water element. The helmet / cup synchronicity can symbolize protection for the receiving of intuitive and inspirational inputs. Cups represent our capacity to receive love and emotional sustenance. Illustrated in tarot cards, the ‘Cup’ is often associated with water spirit representatives such as Dolphins or Fishes. Consequentially, this association highlights emotionality, intuition, and deep inner voyages – just as these animals do in real life.

The Shield of the Warrior (as Earth) is a barrier that allows for establishing a positional foundation. In a metaphysical context, a shield represents protection, defense, and the ability to deflect negative energy, often symbolizing a barrier against harm, both physical and spiritual. A warrior, that is well balanced and strong, can more capably stand their ground with a good shield in hand.  Drawing parallels to the idea of a warrior’s shield being used to ward off attacks, it can also signify personal strength, resilience, and the ability to withstand challenges, with the imagery of a solid, impenetrable surface. Arrows, Maces, Spears, Clubs: the effects of these weapons are neutralized by an experienced shield bearer.

Samkhya Philosophy lists, in descending order, Sound, Touch, Sight, Taste, and Smell as (the) primary elements. They correspond, from higher to lower density, with Aether, Air, Fir, Water, and Earth. These combined elements become manifest and give rise to the 3D material world. Non-awareness of the lower vibratory resonance (of 3D Reality) binds humans to the mundane. Existing in the mundane is that to which many are accustomed. A person born into the physical body typically becomes a ‘slave to the rhythm’ of the material world. They are, in a sense, asleep. The concerns of day to day living are important, yes. However, the concerns for day to day living take precedence over the majority of actions and activities. This preoccupation stifles any interest in higher pursuits.

Returning to a higher state of awareness involves re-member-ing the aspects of self that have become disjointed. By reuniting the accoutrements of the warrior, the four elements, at the place of the dragon, the still point of the fifth element, this can be accomplished. Through re-integrating intelligence, action, intuition, grounding and wisdom, one can be more encompassing of the totality, of which 3D reality is only a part. The everyday things will no longer be viewed in their separateness. They are separate, but there is the encompassing unity that is all-pervasive, nonetheless. The warrior, with his battle scarred accoutrements, must journey to find the dragon. There is no battle to be fought. There is only understandings to be gained and essences to be melded to bring about the elevation of consciousness, to arrive at the blissful state of ‘Self / No-self’.

The higher states of awareness and being are achieved by bringing our different element aspects together. The elements in their lower vibration function to keep humans locked into mundane reality. The earth element vibrates in anger, the water element vibrates envy, the fire element vibrates lust, the air element vibrates pride, the Aether element vibrates sloth: these are lower vibrational aspects of the elements that keep individual enmeshed within the mundane. These elemental aspects can be made positive: the warrior and the dragon need not be adversaries. One must want to and can bring their elemental aspects into higher vibrational alignment, as is indicated by the imagery of the warrior and the dragon united.
