Workout Guilt

To be dedicated to fitness is a good quality to possess. Consistency with one’s choices of exercise is important. Dietary preferences are also key to maintaining health and wellness. A person who is dedicated to their fitness will tend to be critical of themselves. That person may have put forth some physical effort during the day, but they wanted more intensity. One should not second guess or self-deprecate themselves when they have accomplished, at least, some level of activity.

Fitness is a goal that many struggle to achieve. Olympic caliber need not be pursued to be fit. Completing a ¼ Triathlon is an accomplishment but not needed to be fit. Fitness is defined as a state of health and well-being that involves being able to do tasks without injury or fatigue, and with optimal performance, endurance, and strength. Fitness is the ability to accomplish work, whatever that work may entail.

Maintaining fitness is important. Fitness is a result of regular activity undertaken on a consistent basis. Fitness levels will decrease in the face of decreased regularity. Cardiovascular fitness can start to noticeably decrease after about two weeks of being sedentary. A strength training vacuum of eight weeks starts to affect the size and strength of your muscles. A consistent regimen of fitness training is necessary for being functional on a daily basis,

For those who are busy, there are creative ways to stimulate metabolism. Standing up and stretching a couple of times an hour will do wonders for the body.

One must consume foods that will support their fitness and health. It is not required that one adhere to a pristine diet. There are many tasty items that one can sample and enjoy. However, consideration must be given to the quality of what is to be eaten. Food provides energy which is accessed only when it is metabolized by the body. Higher quality food will provide higher quality energy. The tasty stuff can still be consumed . . . . in moderation.

People who exercise regularly may exhibit a tendency to be critical of self.  Self-criticism has been linked to compulsive exercise in women who engage regularly in fitness endeavors. High personal standards and self-criticism may also be a risk factor for compulsive exercise. Some men may judge their sets / reps based on the notion of needing to achieve this or that. Self-criticism can spur one to push harder but it can also undermine one’s self worth.

People ‘should’ everyday put forth the effort to engage in some type of physical activity. It may be a challenging activity. It could be activity that runs along the more accessible vein (easier, so to speak). Consistent activity is good. Easy activity is better than no activity. All activity, in general, is unequally equal. The implication here is that engaging in any activity will be beneficial. Olympic athletes will undertake more ‘intense sessions’ than will the grandmother who wants to maintain levels of functional activity. The body requires consistency in exercise regardless of intensity.

One should not discount the intensity of their activity on a given day. In the everyday world, situations arise that may preclude one’s plans for the regular intense exercise session. It behooves the body to go through some degree of physical activity. One can’t run ten miles . . . . . run two. One cannot do a ninety minute yoga session . . . . do thirty minutes. One should not discount the degree or intensity of the activity in which they engage. From the standpoint of consistent activity, they have kept their body on course with maintaining that acquired level of fitness.

The body functions properly when physical activity is a regular habit. The chosen activity will be reflective of the fitness goals of the individual. Better quality of food will provide adequate energy for all activity. Some people can be very dismissive of their exercise because they (may) feel that that activity was inadequate. Expectations of what one should accomplish, exercise wise, mentally minimize what was actually accomplished. Any level of activity that one engages can be and should be taken as a positive.
