The A-U-M chant can be conceptualized as a three part whole. There is the Waking State (Active Consciousness). There is the Dream State (Active Unconscious). There is the Deep Sleep State (Latent Unconscious). The totality of these three aspects comprise a vehicle of manifestation via focused intent. What is being manifested? Overall wellness. Inner harmony. In depth reflection. Purification. Immune system fortification. These are just a few of the benefits that are provided by the A-U-M chant.

The ‘A’ can be likened to the aspect of the ‘waking state’. The individual is coming into (the) awareness of the(ir) cognitive functions. Cognition is defined within the context of mental activities. Yet, one must awaken to these mental functions in lieu of putting them to use. Cognition refers to the mental processes involved in gaining knowledge and comprehension. Language, imagination, perception, and planning1 are encompassed by cognition.
Cognition, in simple terms, is the initiation of mental functioning. The All of Creation sprang from the act of cosmic essence (Primordial Matter) realizing itself as existence. From this realization the supernal elements (aspects) arose and, in stepwise fashion, gave rise to the states of perceived reality. All of this so-called reality comes into being from a ripple of within the fabric of cosmic essence. The thought, the initial movement is from stillness.

The A aspect of A-U-M is associated with Dravya or “substance”. This ‘substance’ is a part of a frame work, which consists of 7 facets, that defines all things which exist, which can be cognized, and which can be named. Creation then would be based upon this substance as a bedrock for the creation or manifestation of ‘reality’.
Jnana is a sanskrit tern that denotes denotes (a) spiritual knowledge of (the) Self or inner wisdom that is inseparable from the Divine. The A sound facilitates the doorway opening to the attaining of this level of insight.

Brahma and Saraswati are consorts of each other. They are symbolically conjoined to A-U-M as aspects of A. Brahma is the canonized as creator of reality. Symbolic iconography portrays him as all-knowing, ever present, mature, wise, and supreme in his God-status. Saraswati is the symbolic of the capacity for knowledge acquisition and learning. She represents the pursuit of wisdom, music, speech, and arts, making her an emblematic figure.
‘A’ is linked to the individual awakening to their innate abilities acquiring knowledge and learning various skills. Knowledge of the Self is brought to the fore and more deeply tuned into through the A sound when using A-U-M.
