The GOD-Complex Syndrome operates within the subconscious of many motor-vehicle operators. Animals suffer the ill-effects of this semi-self righteous complex. Drivers that collide with animals are of the mindset that they, themselves, are not at fault. Anyone who loves their cat should, by proxy, love equally all creatures of the world. The convenience of motor vehicles serves as a disconnect (severs the connection) that links all beings, always, one to another. Scant remorse arises for (other) beings deemed less than in dearth of that connection

To be GOD is to be in control of the vast capabilities that one can wield. Humankind has acquired the astonishing ability to manipulate the environment. This is important for the thrust of modernization. The environment is deemed to be a fungible commodity. Nature is to be done with as is necessary for developmental projects. Nature, however, cannot be replaced through human dictates. Humans can alter nature, but those alterations are permanent. Those alterations cannot be undone once enacted. Oftentimes, humans realize that many of those changes were not for the best.
Animals, especially, come into detrimental contact with these changes. Motor vehicles, as a change, can be very impactful on animals. Millions of animals fall victim to automobile collisions on an annual basis. According to USA Today, higher speed limits and wider roads in rural areas have contributed to an uptick in bird fatalities. Not all animals have to be on the ground to be hit; low-flying birds, even big ones like barn owls, are susceptible to being struck by a fast-moving vehicle. The speeds at which motor vehicles travel, and the amount of consideration that is not given to possibly hitting any animals, do lend to the likelihood of that very thing happening.

Motor vehicles drivers impose grave and devastating effects upon nature. The infrastructure for motor vehicles is not conducive to animal welfare. Roadways receive preference over the environment. Cutting roadways through the various biomes elicits the sacrificing of various trees, grasses and forbs. Although small, the disruption is seen and felt. In some cases, protected animal species can be irrevocably impacted by automobile infrastructure. Many people are of the opinion that protected animals can be sacrificed to make a way for ease of automobile travel.
All creatures are worthy of compassion and consideration. Those who have pets are, of course, concerned about their animal-friends. Awareness of animal safety is a major part of the lives of these people. A lot of people have little to no concern for other animals . . . A lot of accidents happen because people do not give sufficient consideration to the possibility of hitting an animal. A study conducted in the United States revealed that some people (about 65 of motorists) go out of their way to unalive smaller animals. This speaks to the way in which some people will use their vehicles to carry out unfeeling act of aggression against vulnerable creatures.
The motor vehicle dynamic contributes to a sense of separation from the environment. The sacredness of being connected to nature has been eroding as time presses forward. People are more enthralled with modern technology and the concomitant distractions that it provides. Nature is viewed as expendable, to some degree. There are those who view environmental concerns as an impediment to ‘modernization’. There are others who place a high value on the environment and the denizens found therein. For some groups within that cohort, the environment is regarded as an existent, spiritual entity. These groups hold that whatever is enacted against anything in the environment, animals included, is something that will be against the spiritual essence of the perpetrator.

The ability to feel bad for other things is precluded by the lack of feeling for other things. We drive over the road. The roads continue to extend, and their construction continues to expand. This creates a situation whereby the interaction between cars (humans) and animals will increase; along with the risk of an Animal-Vehicle Collision (AVC) at any given time and place. People want convenience. People like the ease of driving. Yet, it is (also) important to be cognizant of the need to share the road. In an extrapolation to bicycling in the city, there are motorists who disregard clearly marked indicators to share the road. They will tell the bicyclists to get out of the street. Motorists may not overtly harbor a disregard for animals, per se. Yet many do not give them any thought . . . . . that is, until they encounter them on the road.
There is minimal sentiment for beings deemed ‘less than’, from a human perspective. Modern society has removed itself from any energetic connection to other beings or the environment, at large. Yet, consideration and reverence should be extended to all creatures of the earth. The sentiment of ‘animals being at fault’ for any Animal / Vehicle / Collision is a ludicrous supposition. Most animals can in no shape, form, or fashion compete with and oncoming automobile. Humans must realize that the ability to ‘play GOD’ will require a sensible and compassionate use of that power.
